Lagomarsino Petroglyphs Adventure

There is an amazing Petroglyph site near Lockwood Nevada that has over 2200 markings and is the largest such site in all of Northern Nevada.

Normally it is a very rough and difficult 11-mile long road to get there and that takes over 2 hours, but I have been given permission by the property owners to take the back road through the gated area which removes almost all the rough sections and greatly speeds up the trip.

We would like to take all the Young Men and Young Women of the Sparks Nevada East Stake on a day trip there on April 24, 2021.

(Note: If it rains a lot we will need to change the date as we don't want to go there when it's muddy as that would be a real mess.)

HERE IS A MAP TO THE LOCATION

IT ONLY TAKES ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO GET THERE.

The last 2.5 miles is the slow part. If an adult has a high clearance 4WD and wants to drive the last half mile, it's about a 3 MPH section with some very rough parts that cross the creek a couple of times. I recommend we park ALL of the vehicles at the top of the ridge and hike down into the Petroglyphs so they get some exercise and we don't run into problems with vehicles on the rough section. This will also prevent jealousy on the part of those who would be walking that last section while others are riding. (We may allow one vehicle to drive there for possible emergency purposes).

Recommended things to take and prepare for:

  • Good hiking shoes/boots
  • Long pants, not shorts as there are lots of rocks and plants that will most likely scrape your legs
  • Walking Stick (this is VERY uneven terrain)
  • Water
  • Snack
  • Hat
  • Jacket/Coat depending on the weather
  • Gloves (not required though)
  • Camera
  • Note: there is no cell service out there
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: We all promise not to damage any markings we see so they can be preserved for future generations! You will see plenty of damage thus far (you can see some damage in the 2 photos above) and it endangers anyone from seeing them in the future.
